It all started in 1994. Nic-E went to his first party in the Calgary scene called House of Unity. There was just something special about that guy up stage behind the decks. The way he could make the people dance and the music he played called House. Over the next few years listening to Calgary locals Mel Reyes and Jon Delerious, Nic-E’s love for House music became stronger and he started collecting his own vinyl, buying records from the local shop called the Attic. Then in early 1997 he bought his first set of decks and a mixer. Still un-sure off what style of House Nic-E was looking for, it wasn’t un till he went to the Night Gallery for the first time on a Sunday night. Sunday Skool with DJ Rice, there was nothing like it. Walking up the stairs then to left, a packed house. A room full of all kinds of people, disco balls every where with different coloured spot lights shining off of them, filling the room. All kinds of pictures and posters covering the walls. Movies being projected on to a screen behind Rice up on stage and House like Nic-E had never heard before. Deep, Soulful, Funky beats. This was it for Nic-E, the sound he had been looking for and the House music that felt right.
In 1998 Nic-E got his first big opportunity DJing at the party called Safari in the Calgary Planetarium. Playing in a packed second room gave Nic-E a huge confidence boost and he pursued playing out even more than ever. Then in 1999 through a friend Nic-E got to meet DJ Rice for the first time. Rice gave Nic-E the opportunity to jam with him a few times at his resident night @ Aurora then also Cherry Lounge. This lead to Nic-E’s first resident night at Cherry Lounge in 2000. Other resident nights followed at Shadow Nightclub, The Newt, Soho, Sambuca Lounge and Manhattans. Not Happy with his full time job in Calgary and having some major connections in Edmonton for DJ work, in 2005, Nic-E decided to move to Edmonton for a new resident night at Y Afterhours. Resident nights at Backroom Vodka Bar, Sapphire Lounge and Suede Lounge followed shortly after because of his success at Y.
Currently Nic-E is a resident @ Century Room in Edmonton and is taking his love for House music to the next level by producing his very own. He hopes to have some of his tracks released on a label in the very near future. You can always expect to hear nothing but fresh, smooth, funky, soulful, deep underground house every time Nic-E is behind the decks.
